Library Cards

How do I get a library card?

Wallingford Public Library cards in multiple colorsAll residents of Wallingford should stop by the Main Borrower Services Desk with Photo ID and Proof of Wallingford residency to get a library card. Please arrive at least a half hour before the library closes to apply!

Photo ID:

  • Current driver’s license
  • Connecticut State ID card
  • Passport
  • School ID card

Proof of Wallingford residency:

  • Current mail
  • Printed check with address
  • Utility bill
  • Rental agreement
  • Any official document available on an electronic device

Who can get a library card?

ADULTS
Anyone over 18 who is a Wallingford resident is eligible.
CHILDREN
Children age 12 or under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian 18 years or older to apply for a library card. The parent (or guardian or responsible adult) must show a current photo ID.

Parents/guardians are responsible for the lost or damaged materials borrowed by their children.

YOUNG ADULTS

Young Adults who are age 13-17 or age 12 or in 6th grade to twelfth grade are not required to present identification to obtain a library card.

TEACHER CARDS

If you teach in grades K-12 at a Wallingford public or private school you are eligible to apply for a Teacher Card which can be used to borrow materials for classroom use. Cards are valid through academic year and expire on June 30th of the current school year. Applicants should provide a photo ID and a current staff ID or paystub from the school.

CHOATE STUDENTS

Students at Choate Rosemary Hall are eligible to apply for a Choate Student Card. Choate Student Cards which is valid through May 31st of the current school year and can be used to borrow up to 10 items at a time. Applicants should provide a valid Choate student ID.

SPECIAL USE

Use of Wallingford Public Library is free to all. You do not need a library card to visit WPL and you can request a guest pass at the Information Desk to use the library’s computers on a temporary basis. If you need extended use of library computers or have a special request, speak to Borrower Services staff.
