Who can get a library card?
Adults
Wallingford residents age 18 and over.
Children
Children age 12 or under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian 18 years or older to apply for a library card. The parent or guardian must show a current photo ID.
Parents/guardians are responsible for the lost or damaged materials borrowed by their children.
Young Adults
Young Adults who are age 12 - 17 and in at least 6th grade are not required to present ID to obtain a library card.
Teacher Cards
If you teach in grades PreK-12 at a Wallingford public or private school you may apply for a Teacher Card, which can be used to borrow materials for classroom use. Cards are valid through academic year and expire on June 30th each year. Applicants should provide a photo ID and a current staff ID or paystub from the school.
Choate Students
Students at Choate Rosemary Hall may apply for a Choate Student Card. Choate Student Cards are valid through May 31st of the current school year and can be used to borrow up to 10 items at a time. Applicants should provide a valid Choate student ID.
Special Use
Use of Wallingford Public Library is free to all. You do not need a library card to visit WPL and you can request a guest pass at the Information Desk to use the library’s computers on a temporary basis. If you need extended use of library computers or have a special request, speak to Borrower Services staff.
How do I get a library card?
All residents of Wallingford should stop by the Main Borrower Services Desk with Photo ID and Proof of Wallingford residency to get a library card. Please arrive at least a half hour before the library closes to apply!

- Passport
- School ID card
Proof of Wallingford residency:
- Current mail
- Printed check with address
- Utility bill
- Rental agreement
- Any official document available on an electronic device
