Event Details
In many Eastern European countries, the week before Lent is celebrated with food, dancing, costumes, and music. Join us to explore these rich traditions at our next Wallingford Table event! Guests will enjoy pierogies, crêpes, and other delicious dishes while hearing from a panel of speakers representing Ukraine, Poland, and Hungary. Each panelist will share stories about their country's Shrovetide traditions as well as other unique aspects of their heritage. We will conclude with a demonstration of "Busójárás," a Hungarian folk dance in which a costumed performer will "chase the winter away" and welcome back the spring! Vintage cultural objects & materials will be on display throughout the program.
This event is a collaboration between the Wallingford Public Library, the Polish National Alliance of Wallingford, the Hungarian Community Club of Wallingford, and the Ukrainian Women's League of New England. The Wallingford Table series is sponsored by donations from The Great Give. Registration is required; please sign up below.
