Program Description

Event Details

During the first two weeks of March, we will witness a "planetary parade," an astronomical phenomenon in which several of the planets in our solar system are aligned and visible at the same time. In this virtual presentation by NASA Solar System Ambassador Geoffrey McLean, you will learn what to expect from this unique event and how best to view it. Geoffrey will also discuss how our solar system formed and why there are some very strange aspects in our planetary brothers' and sisters' orbits and motions. He'll explore the strata of planetary bodies including rocky and gas planets, asteroids, minor planets, Kuiper Belt, and Oort cloud objects & how these things contribute to the spectacle of a planetary parade. Additionally, he will discuss the upcoming lunar eclipse, partial solar eclipse, and other exciting celestial phenomena in late winter and early spring of 2025.
