Event Details

In 2020, The Wallingford Historic Preservation Trust embarked on research into the enslaved Black population who lived locally and were a vital part of the town’s early history from 1790 to 1840. In this talk, they will discuss the homes built by Wallingford’s founding families and their slave-owning past. In addition, guest speaker John Mills, a genealogist and President/ Founder of the Alex Breanne Corporation, will share his research to inject unknown stories of enslaved individuals into the landscape of our communities and his own family’s history in enslavement. WHPT President Jerry Farrell, Jr. notes, “Black Americans have done much to lift up our country—all those contributions need to be celebrated and made visible during Black History Month.”
